The first baseman on your fantasy team is like the bouncer at the club—he's there to set the tone. While the speedy, small players (like your second baseman or outfielders) can glide around the dance floor, your first baseman is holding it down, making sure the power is felt. He doesn’t need to be quick or flashy; his job is to deliver big hits that can shake things up. When he hits a home run, it’s like him throwing open the club doors—suddenly, your runs, RBIs, batting average, and OPS are all elevated. He’s the backbone of your lineup, providing stability and muscle, while the smaller, quicker guys can do their thing in the background without disruption. Without that bouncer (the first baseman), the whole vibe of the club (or lineup) falls apart. I tend to think that a good bouncer will be able to stick at his job longer than other positions. There is typically less wear and tear at first base.
Top 60 Dynasty First Basemen
1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays, Age: 25 (Overall dynasty rank #12) 2024: 697 PA 323/396/544 98 R 30 HR 103 RBI 2 SB 10.3 BB 13.8 K
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the cornerstone of any dynasty roster. At just 25 years old, he’s already a fantasy superstar with elite power and an exceptional batting average. His 2024 projections suggest another near 30-homer, 100-RBI season, maintaining the elite production we've come to expect. Vlad’s consistent bat-to-ball skills and disciplined approach at the plate point to him continuing as one of the best hitters for years to come. As he enters his prime, he's positioned to remain a top fantasy producer long-term. There are no young players nipping at his heels—he’s the top dog at the position.
2. Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies, Age: 32 (#21) 2024: 631 PA 285/373/525 85 R 30 HR 87 RBI 7 SB 12.0 BB 21.9 K
Harper ranks second primarily due to his age—seven years older than Guerrero. However, his consistency and strong supporting cast in Philadelphia make him a valuable asset for the next few seasons. His move to first base may have extended his career, and there’s no reason to let his age scare you from acquiring him. Expect him to remain an elite contributor, especially in leagues that value well-rounded production.
3. Tristan Casas, Boston Red Sox, Age: 25 (#43) 2024: 243 PA 241/337/462 28 R 13 HR 32 RBI 0 SB 12.3 BB 31.7 K
If Casas can stay healthy, his immense power could vault him to a top-three dynasty ranking. He’s shown the ability to hit for power to all fields, and his excellent walk rate since entering the majors bodes well for future success. Though his strikeout rate ticked up last year, it’s likely due to injury, and he’s expected to return to a more manageable 25% K-rate. A .270 average with 35 home runs and 100 RBIs is a realistic expectation in the near future. With the Red Sox lineup potentially becoming more potent, Casas could become a fantasy beast soon.
4. Pete Alonso, Free Agent, Age: 30 (#44) 2024: 695 PA 240/329/459 91 R 34 HR 88 RBI 3 SB 10.1 BB 24.7 K
Alonso’s inconsistent batting average may be frustrating, but it’s his elite exit velocity and power that make him an irresistible fantasy option. Regardless of where he plays in 2025, expect at least 40 home runs. If he returns to the Mets, the addition of Juan Soto to the lineup should provide even more RBI opportunities for the Polar Bear.
5. Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves, Age: 30 (#45) 2024: 685 PA 247/333/457 78 R 29 HR 98 RBI 0 SB 10.4 BB 24.8 K
Olson’s 2024 numbers took a slight dip from his 2023 performance, but injuries to the surrounding cast likely played a role. He remains a consistent power hitter, capable of 30+ home runs regardless of external factors. With a healthier Braves lineup around him, his counting stats should improve. His floor seems stable, and he’s unlikely to lose much value in the near future.
