It was an off day across minor league baseball but we've still got some MLB action to cover from Monday.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR AN ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING SOME MINOR LEAGUE PLAYOFF COVERAGE FOR TONIGHT!

MLB

Covered by Smada

Lenyn Sosa, 2B CHW (MLB)

2-for-4, HR, R, RBI

Sosa had been struggling like much of the White Sox lineup since he was recalled for the 3rd time this year in late July. Just 15 R+RBI and no HR/SB until this jack in the last month and a half. The White Sox have already said they won’t be active in free agency so it looks like Sosa should get some more time next year to figure things out and improve upon his 65 wRC+ over 329 PA.

Eric Wagaman, 3B LAA (MLB)

1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K

Gustavo Campero, RF LAA (MLB)

1-for-3, RBI, K

First career HR for Wagaman, the player who has elicited quite a few “who?” tweets over the last week. The Angels got him in the AAA phase of the Rule 5 draft from the Yankees this offseason. The 27 yr old has had a 132 wRC+ across AA and AAA over the last two years with 22 HR and 23 SB over 631 PA. The HR on Monday only would have donged in 4 of 30 parks. He’s got 4 extra base hits in his last 3 games. After appearing in Sunday’s game, Campero got his first career start and hit in this one. Profiled him a while back in the PLIVE+ series as a potential late season call up. Over the last two years all he’s done is hit to the tune of a 160 wRC+ with 26 HR and 53 SB over 677 PA. Both these guys are still just an add in the deepest of leagues right now, but who doesn’t like some good underdog stories?

Reid Detmers, LHP LAA (MLB)

5.1 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 3 HR

Woof, the only reason you didn’t start Detmers is your season was already over or you forgot to set your lineup. After back to back quality starts upon his return, we thought the promised Detmers arrived. He hung the 7 ER with in the first 2 IP + a batter in the 3rd, so we can give him some credit for settling down and at least getting the 6 K. The AAA stint was awkward, it felt dirty and prolonged, and the results were not great as a whole. I keep coming back to the K-BB% pointing to upside. Detmers will come cheap next year and I’m willing to buy. My guess is he’d get moved before being sent down again.

Hunter Goodman, C COL (MLB)

1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, K

His 12th HR ups the slash to .190/.233/.418. Catcher appearance #18… looks like he’ll get to 20.

Andre Pallante, RHP STL (MLB)

7 IP, 4 H, BB, 9 K

I don’t think I’ve written about Pallante yet and that was a bit on purpose as I didn’t know quite what to make of him. He joined the rotation in late May after pitching out of the bullpen to start the year then getting stretched out for a few games in AAA. While the K:BB was great in this start, it’s been abysmal over his previous 17 games with a 7.9% K-BB. But here he is with a 3.87 ERA, 3.87 FIP and 3.94 xFIP over 109.1 IP. The unexpected results are due to a league leading 61% GB rate, which is Framber Valdez territory. Given Pallante has a long history of exceptional GB rates I’m inclined to believe he’s got staying power in the 2025 rotation. An improved BB% would make him a QS machine. During this game Pallante set a career high in strikeouts.

Jacob Wilson, SS OAK (MLB)

2-for-4, 3B, R, BB

Nice to see Wilson have a solid day at the plate after a couple 0-for-4’s. He’s already got 2 triples in his 64 PA but still looking for that first HR. He led off again with Lawrence Butler sitting, but otherwise he’s been further back in the order.

Colt Keith, 3B DET (MLB)

1-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI

After Keith’s scorching July, he went pretty silent with this being just his 2nd HR over the last 166 PA. He’s going to end up finishing the year somewhere around 100 wRC+ with positive defensive value at 2B. All things considered, I’ll call that a win in his age-22 season. Lots of opportunity to improve in the sophomore season.

Kyle Manzardo, DH CLE (MLB)

1-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB

Huge go-ahead 2 run shot in the 8th inning for Manzardo. He got an up-and-in 97 mph FB from Griffin Jax and turned on it for a 407 ft blast. Manzardo has been running hot since being recalled on 9/1 but hasn’t been starting every game. I’m hesitant to project Manzardo with an everyday role entering the season.
