We've got 70 names covered for you today. Rhys White at AAA, Adam Kiel on AA, Grant Carver at A+, Nate Rasmussen on A, and Smada covering MLB.
Major League Baseball
Covered by Smada
đź’Łđź’Ł Jordan Beck, LF COL (MLB)
Game 1: 2-for-3, HR, R, RBI Game 2: 2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Three HR in the double header for Jordan Beck! The season started out rough as he only got 3 1B in 23 PA across 9 games (granted 3 SB for the fantasy folk) before being sent down to AAA for Zac Veen. Turns out Veen was less big league ready so they swapped spots back. Funny enough, Beck posted a 1 wRC+ in his 37 PA in AAA. This doubleheader performance will put Beck back on track for a while, but the whiff continues to be a huge issue. The Z-Contact across his AAA stints this year and last would have put in the bottom 10% of MLB players in 2024, and he’s posted worse numbers in the majors. It’s obviously a fantasy friendly profile, but to stick he’ll need to make contact strides.
Chase Dollander, RHP COL (MLB)
4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Dollander had a really tough time locating and putting guys away in this one and ended up middle-middle with fastballs and cutters. The ERA looks horrible at 7.91 through 4 starts but it’s mostly been due to the HR ball, which coincidentally, he didn’t give up in this one. The xFIP sits at 3.86 due to a 15.6% K-BB and 44% GB thus far. If owners are panicking I’d be fine rebuilding teams buying the dip.
đźš‘ Cole Ragans, RHP KC (MLB)
3 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR allowed
Ragans was getting worked by the Rockies with the FB velo down a tick but it turns out that he was dealing with a groin injury. We’ll see if he requires an IL stint but we can breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn’t an arm issue.
Shane Smith, LHP CHW (MLB)
5 IP, 4 H, BB, 7 K
Smith continues to roll out solid starts and he generated a whiff with each of his 5 pitches in this start against the Twins. The changeup continues to be effective in generating in-zone swings & results but he doesn’t really have that go-to swing and miss offering out of the zone. That said I’m always interested in plus command pitchers with deep arsenals and average or better velo.
Leo Rivas, 2B SEA (MLB)
2-for-3, R, BB, SB
If you’re looking for a deep league SB option in daily leagues (+ in OBP), look no further than Rivas. He’s stolen 3 bases across his 28 PA. He’s primarily been in against LHP but could get some more looks as he’s hit well in both AAA and MLB this season. He’s extremely patient but has decent contact skills.
Kristian Campbell, CF BOS (MLB)
0-for-4, 4 K
The Golden Sombrero isn’t something we want to be seeing from the rookie, but is going to come with the territory of a player who only got 255 PA in AA and 85 PA in AAA. Despite a “cold” streak, Campbell still owns a 143 wRC+ on the season with a .286/.390/.452 slash. The zone recognition has led to a 15% BB thus far. Stay the course with Campbell!
🆕 Matt Gorski, 1B-LF PIT (MLB)
1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K
One pitch, one home run. What a way to start your big league career. Love to see a 27 year old have success off the bat after working so hard to get a shot in the majors. Gorski doesn’t project all that well and is likely a short-side platoon at 1B with Enmauel Valdez until Spencer Horwitz returns.
Matt Gorski hit a home run in the first at-bat of his MLB debut with wife and family in the stands.
Neto hit a go-ahead HR in the 8th for his 2nd of the season. It’s great to see him in the 2-hole after a few games hitting 7th.
Tim Tawa, 2B ARI (MLB)
1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, BB, K
Tawa has earned five straight starts at 2B and has delivered 3 HR in that span! The 26 year-old rookie may look like a sell on the surface, especially with Ketel Marte coming back in the next week or so. But I’m loving the improve in-zone contact that he showed at AAA and has continued in this shot big-league stint. It’s clear he’s taken a step forward and I’d be willing to wait on him if he gets optioned back.
Triple-A Baseball
Covered by Rhys White
Coby Mayo, 1B BAL (Triple-A)
2-for-4, 3B, R, 2 RBI, BB
I'm more of an aioli guy, but we can have some Mayo. What is the difference between Aioli and Mayo? The difference between them is the $3 extra the restaurant can now charge, calling it a Chipotle aioli. Anyways, back to prospects and not food, Mayo, at some point, will be given a shot to prove he is the 110-120 wRC+ first-baseman that I think he is now. That needs to happen in another organization. Keep an eye on Pittsburgh. Their needs match up so perfectly.
Jud Fabian, CF BAL (Triple-A)
1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, BB
The platonic idea of a fourth outfielder continues to do fourth outfielder things. He is a good defender in center and he swings and misses too much, the duality of man, some might say. Anyways Fabian is another one I would expect to see the Orioles move because there is no way they can keep rolling out this rotation. It is bleak.
👟 Jordan Lawlar, 2B ARI (Triple-A)
2-for-4, 2 R, BB, 2 SB
Jordan Lawlar has to be the Spongebob meme where Squidward (himself) is watching Patrick (Tim Tawa), and Spongebob (the Diamondbacks) have a great time outside. At this point, Lawler has to wonder what he needs to do to get a chance with the Diamondbacks. As Matt and I say, teams will always tell us what they think of prospects so that Lawler will be good in his following organization.
Zac Veen, LF COL (Triple-A)
2-for-5, R, RBI
Veen finally gets promoted to the big leagues, and well, he did not perform well, but remember, most players struggle in their first taste of major league ball. Ultimately, I think he should be fine. The Rockies have to get a new manager. His deployment of rookies on a rebuilding team is criminal and must be investigated.
Brady House, 3B WAS (Triple-A)
1-for-3, 2B, R
It's not exactly a House call, but I think there is so much prospect fatigue associated with Brady House. Is he going to be a star? No. But he could be a stock-standard big-league regular for a long time, and there is value in that. House Call and Crews Missiles are going to hit differently. I am just mentally preparing myself for all the corny House of Representatives or White House jokes we are going to be subjected to.
Brandon Sproat, RHP NYM (Triple-A)
2.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R (6 ER), 2 BB, K, HR Allowed
Oh boy, does Brandon Sproat need a sinker because this was not what the Mets brass would have wanted to see? That said, the sinker would do a lot for Sproat because the four-seamer is just fine. A sinker tunnels and sets up his slider better.
Roman Anthony, RF BOS (Triple-A)
2-for-4, HR, 3 R, RBI, BB
What does he have to do to get promoted? Rafaella can’t hit, so there is an easy replacement: this Roman Anthony fella. He could provide just another bat for this vaunted Red Sox lineup. A lineup with Casas hitting 8th is pretty crazy.
Jairo Iriarte, RHP CWS (Triple-A)
IP, 2 H, 3 R (ER), 2 BB, K, HR Allowed
Iriarte is gonna eat out of the bullpen; trust me on this because, as currently constructed, there is no way he can remain a starter.
Justin Crawford, CF- LF PHI(Triple-A)
1-for-5, R, BB
The zone contact rate is in a good spot because I wanna start with a positive with Crawford. 87% is an excellent mark. But a 62% ground-ball rate is just not tenable. Crawford’s speed will be a nice addition to our fantasy rosters, but not if the groundball rate is that high because defenses will cheat him.
Max Muncy, 3B-2B SAC (Triple-A)
2-for-6, 2 2B, 3 R
No, not that Max Muncy. But this Max Muncy was optioned down to Triple-A because when you can play Luis Urias and Gio Urshela over a prospect, you can figure out what you have in; you have gotta do it. Muncy projects out as a solid 15-18 homer bat.
Evan Carter, CF TEX (Triple-A)
1-for-5, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI
This is encouraging to see. I do have worries about an athlete like him who has a pretty serious back issue, but Rangers fans will always have that postseason run where he looked like one of the best hitters on the planet.
Dalton Rushing, C LAD (Triple-A)
4-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI
👟 Hyeseong Kim, 2B LAD (Triple-A)
0-for-4, R, BB, 2 SB
The B-squad for the Dodgers continues to hit. Rushing looks to have snapped out of his little slump, and with Muncy and Will Smith not performing well, there might be a chance for Rushing. Smith struggles as a catcher, so maybe they can move him to third base and call up Rushing. Kim has not looked great, but he has shown off some speed and has sprinkled in a modest amount of power. I heard a scout at a game ask why they spent that much on a 40 FV guy, but hey, it’s the Dodgers world. We just live in it.
‼️ Kyle Harrison, LHP SF (Triple-A)
6 IP, 2 H, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 8 K
What must a fella do to get Kyle Harrison up to the majors? I don’t know at this point, but trying to understand the Giants and how they handle their prospects seems like an exercise in futility. But hey, the Giants are a half-game up on the Dodgers.
🔜 Brandon Woodruff, RHP MIL (Triple-A)
5 IP, 2 H, 5 K
He is back! Even if the velo isn’t yet.
Double-A Baseball
Covered by Adam Kiel
🍔🍟👟 Nick Morabito, CF NYM (Double-A)
3-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB
Morabito was a hot name once before based on his solid hit tool and borderline double-plus speed. The 21-year-old has struggled a bit in his first taste of the upper levels sitting at .233/.288/.450. The slugging percentage looks better than it did just 4 days ago thanks to an almost 150 point jump due to a couple doubles and yesterday’s home run - just his 8th career home run. He used his speed after his single in the bottom of the first to steal second and third, unfortunately three straight strikeouts ended the inning before he could score. Morabito remains a fun prospect who likely ends up a fan favorite 4th outfielder, not enough fantasy value for me personally.
