On Tuesdays I get to fly solo. Thankfully there were a few notable standouts from Monday's games. Max Meyer stuck out 14, Lindor went Double Dong, I dove a bit deeper into Kyle Manzardo and we got another Hayden Birdsong sighting.

On a side note, I'm a few days out from releasing my first in-season update to the 1300+ Dynasty Rankings which will also update the trade values and league analyzer.

‼️ Max Meyer, RHP MIA (MLB)

6.1 IP, 5 H, 14 K

Absolutely lethal stuff from Max Meyer in what could end up being the best start of his career. Elite command in this start and the slider devastated the Reds as he got 16 whiffs on 21 swings. Meyer had three straight quality starts prior to yesterday’s game, but this outing solidifies him as a breakout arm. He checks every box right now with heavy GB%, heavy Whiff% while keeping the BB% in check. Health will always be a concern, but to state the obvious opinion, I’m ready to buy-in on Meyer and the updated dynasty ranks out soon will reflect that.

🍔🍟 Eric Wagaman, 1B MIA (MLB)

2-for-5, HR, R, RBI, SB

Did the Angels fumble the bag once again? The batted ball quality over 71 PA is jumping off the page and his approach is looking much more solid. Also, yesterday’s combo meal for Eric Wagaman provides his first career SB. Not a burner, but could see him chipping in a couple more over the season. It’s all a small sample so we take the performance with a grain of salt, but he’ll be hitting in the top half of the Marlins lineup everyday for the foreseeable future. If he sticks, a 20 HR season is in play.

Jasson Dominguez, LF NYY (MLB)

1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, 3 K

Jasson Dominguez’s 2nd HR on the season was a 445 ft shot off Gavin Williams who had shut down the Yankees up until that point in the 7th inning. Despite debuting in 2023 it can be easy to forget that he’s only had 178 PA in his career and to this point has 8 HR, 8 SB and 109 wRC+.

Kyle Manzardo, DH CLE (MLB)

1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, BB, K

Incredible output in April for Kyle Manzardo who has now had three straight games with a big fly and is up to 7 HR on the season. That said, he’s only got 15 total hits with extra bases coming exclusively to the pull side. Manzardo has actually punished lefties to this point with 4 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B over just 19 PA.

Looking at his Batter Run Value across the zone (2024 1st plot, 2025 2nd) you can see both this year and last he thrived on hitting pitches inside, middle-up. Where Manzardo has improved is his patience and recognition of those balls outside the strike zone, especially away, where pitchers are obviously looking to attack.

My cursory conclusion is that Manzardo is simply selling out for pull-side power but being judicious in when to do it. Interestingly, the new Savant Batter Position has him setting up an inch and a half farther off the plate than last season, potentially giving him more space to attack and more visual reference to spit on pitches away.

It’s clear Manzardo has adjusted, but the league is going to adjust back, especially LHP who need to take more notice. Feed him offspeed and challenge him on the outer half of the zone. I’m a bit worried the approach will be exposed and now may be a good time to move him.

Gavin Williams, RHP CLE (MLB)

6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K

Gavin Williams has been frustrating this year, but this start highlights the potential when he’s able to command the fastball. He had gotten through 6 IP scoreless before Jasson Dominguez got him in the 7th.

💣💣 Francisco Lindor, SS NYM (MLB)

2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB, K

The Double Dong gives Francisco Lindor 3 HR in the last two games and 5 on the season. We’re still at the point where slow starts can be washed away quickly. Prior to Easter Lindor had a .250/.308/.375 slash with a 94 wRC+. After yesterday he’s up to .284/.340/.500 and 134 wRC+, nearly identical to his 2024 season.

‼️ Tylor Megill, RHP NYM (MLB)

5.1 IP, H, 4 BB, 10 K

Tylor Megill has yet to get past 5.1 IP in a start this year, but he’s also only allowed 3 ER the entire season through 5 starts. Combining 2024 and 2025 stats he’s got a 3.33 ERA, 3.71 xFIP over 102 IP with a 27.2% K and 9.7% BB. It’s a big ask, but if he can lower the walks while keeping the reduced HR rate he’s got a chance to be a high-end SP.

Victor Scott II, CF-RF STL (MLB)

3-for-4, R, 2 RBI, SB

Victor Scott II continues to prove the haters wrong and owns a league average bat through 81 PA. He’s up to 8 SB on the season and could push for 40 with a healthy season.

Hayden Birdsong, RHP SF (MLB)

3 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Would it be an MLB Daily Sheet without highlighting Hayden Birdsong? He went nearly all fastball, changeup last night and got 9 whiffs on 20 swings against them. Birdsong talks about the lack of routine and prep in adjusting to being a reliever in the clip below. Reading between the lines, he knows that this is ridiculous and the Giants need to get him back in the rotation ASAP.
