Saturday’s college baseball slate delivered another wave of standout performances, with elite arms and explosive bats making noise in some of the sport’s biggest matchups. Joey Ryan closed the door with a dominant save, while Kyle Lodise and Jake Hyde continued to torch opposing pitching with big-time power at the plate. On the mound, Mason Patel remained nearly untouchable in relief, and Landon Mack carved up a top-10 lineup with seven shutout innings. Jesse Jaconski and Cole Caruso supplied the fireworks in a pair of clutch multi-homer performances, and Rylan Galvan added another long ball in a breakout showing. With momentum building and conference battles intensifying, Saturday’s stars are beginning to separate themselves both in the standings and on draft boards.
Below are the standout performers from Saturday's slate of games!
Atlantic Coast Conference
Covered by Monty Taylor
Joey Ryan, RHP, Boston College – 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, Save (37 pitches)
Joey Ryan was a key piece of Boston College’s 2023 Regional team and was sorely missed last season when he missed the entire year due to injury. In 2025, Ryan has been BC’s best pitcher and that continued with a dominant performance out of the bullpen on Saturday. After good outings from teammates Tyler Mudd and Kyle Kipp, Ryan entered the game in the 7th with the Eagles leading, 3-1. He had no problem with the Tar Heels in the 7th, retiring them 1-2-3 with two strikeouts. The graduate right-hander ran into some problems with two outs in the 8th, but was able to limit the damage to just one run. Clinging to a one run lead in the 9th, Ryan once again retired the side in order and earned his fourth save of the year. He’s now 1-0 on the year with a 2.60 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched. He’s walked just four batters.
Jacob French, OF, California – 4 AB, 4 R, 4 H, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 3B, HBP
Jacob French and the California Golden Bears have been a pleasant surprise this weekend as they’ve gone into Stanford and clinched a series victory against their biggest rivals. French is now an eye-popping 8-for-8 this weekend with a double and three triples. Prior to this series, the sophomore utility man only had one three hit game on the year. He started his day off with a single through the left side in the Top of the 2nd. He’d come around to score on the Smaldino double a few batters later. In the 5th, he tripled to left center to drive in Moutzouridis and Tayman to give Cal a commanding 8-1 lead. French would follow that up with a double in the 6th and another triple in the 9th. On the season, he’s slashing .375/.431/.578 with eight extra base hits.
Jake Hyde, 1B, Duke – 5 AB, 2 R, 4 H, 4 RBI, HR
Jake Hyde endured a slow start to the 2025 season, starting the year 1-for-17 with six strikeouts but the graduate transfer from Georgetown was outstanding for the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville. Hyde clubbed 48 career home runs for the Hoyas but hasn’t quite delivered the same power for Duke. Yesterday’s home run was only his third as a Blue Devil. Hyde sparked the 2nd inning rally that started the scoring for Duke as he singled to left to lead off. He’d come around to score the first run of the game two batters later when Macon Winslow doubled. Hyde would add to the Duke lead with a solo shot to left center to make it 5-0 in the 3rd inning. He’d add an RBI groundout in the 5th before singling in both the 6th and 7th to cap off a 4-for-5 performance.
Kyle Lodise has been on fire this weekend and hit his fourth home run of the series with a two-run blast in the 6th inning on Saturday. His first two hits of the game were much more pedestrian, as he reached first base on balls that didn’t even reach third base off the bat. The former Augusta star is now slashing .387/.500/.817 with 21 extra base hits already this season. He’s also 7-for-7 in stolen bases while playing fantastic defense. He leads Georgia Tech in home runs and slugging, which is no small feat when considering he’s teammates with Drew Burress.
